PNGSF warns sports

THE Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation’s (PNGSF) pandemic management committee has warned national federations to follow Covid-19 protocols as the National Pandemic Act is still in effect.
Committee chairman Dr Kapua Kapua said the federations must be prepared for restrictions that may affect their sports and the movement of people.
“The federations need to adhere to their sport’s Covid-19 protocols and plan contingencies,” he said.
In regards to playing venues, Kapua said PNGSF venues may be commandeered immediately by the national pandemic response controller if there was a major outbreak.
“(The) Rita Flynn (Netball Courts) and Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium are the main venues affected and the sports that use these venues should see David Aua and the venue management team to sort out alternatives,” Kapua said.
“The committee is an advisory body.
“It advises and recommends policies to the PNGSF management, and is an advocate for the sports community.
“The committee is in constant dialogue with the National Control Centre on matters that are affecting sports. The committee negotiates with the control centre on the best outcomes for all.
“But we are very aware to not compromise when it comes to the health and safety of the public.”
Kapua said while most of the federations had received their Covid-19 approvals, some were yet to submit their applications and should contact the committee immediately to get it sorted.
