THE PNG Volleyball Federation (PNGVF) has backed Tatana Araira Volleyball Association (TAVA) men’s team to the 46th Good Neighbours tournament scheduled on Nov 26-28 in Canberra, Australia.
PNGVF president Turaho Morea presented TAVA with K1,000 as their support towards the team.
The team was supposed to leave next Wednesday but needs K80,000 to attend the tournament and currently has a shortfall of K50,000.
TAVA men’s squad is: Garry Udia (c), Bobby Batari, Bobby Rarua, Ian Sinari, Freddy Noah, Alu Dai, John Luci, Nigel Aiio, Richard Batari, Bobby Gaigo, Ake Walo, Igo Konio, Billy Anton.
TAVA will be the first team from PNG to attend the tournament besides the Vabukori Amateur Volleyball Association side.
Morea said it would be a good experience and give valuable exposure to the players who have never played at an international tournament.
Morea, vice-president Bernard Alu and female vice-president Mouna Sogo called on the Tatana village community as well as business houses in Port Moresby to come forward and support the team.
TAVA president George Daira echoed similar sentiments and urged Moresbywest MP Mekere Morauta, Motu-Koitabu chairman Miria Ikupu and NCD Governor Powes Parkop to support the young players.
“I call on our leaders and interested corporate houses to step in and support because they will not only represent Tatana village but NCD and PNG as well.”
He thanked PNGVF for their support of the TAVA men’s team to attend the tournament.
