The acting secretary position for Petroleum Department is for a period of three months, says Minister Dr Fabian Pok.
He was responding to claims by former acting secretary Kepsey Puiye that he was still the acting secretary.
“Every three months a new secretary is appointed, unless the National Executive Council (NEC) appoints a permanent one,” Pok told The National yesterday. “That has not been done yet. Nobody has been appointed permanent yet, so nobody can claim to be the rightful person in the secretary’s position.”
Lohial Nuau was appointed last month by NEC as acting secretary for Petroleum for a period of three months, or until a substantive appointment was made, whichever occured first, with effect on and from the date of publication of this instrument in the National Gazette.
Nuau replaced Puiye, who was the acting secretary for the past two years until last month, when the NEC decided to revoke his acting appointment.
Based on the advice from Minister for Public Service Elias Kapavore, acting Governor-General Job Pomat, through a National Gazette, revoked the acting appointment of Puiye
and appointed Nuau as acting secretary.
Pomat said the acting appointment would take effect as of the date of the publication of the appointment instruments in the National Gazette, which was Jan 23, 2019.
Pok said Nuau was a senior public servant who had spent more than 18 years in the department.
He said Nuau had vast experience and knowledge of the industry and the NEC had seen fit to appoint him after recommendations from the ministerial executive appointments committee.
