POLICE have arrested six cult suspects who have been terrorising Kessowai villagers in Ramu, Madang.
“The six were captured in a dawn raid yesterday,” Madang police commander Acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang said.
“Police also seized offensive weapons that included homemade firearms.”
He said the armed cult members moved around in groups to pick their victims.
“They are now held in the Ramu police station lockup,” he said.
“Villagers will be asked to identify the suspects on the crimes they committed.”
Rubiang said people travelling along the highway to Lae or to the Highlands, had also been terrorised by the suspects.
“We have been investigating the cult groups in the province and the suspects are of interest in our probe,” he said.
Rubiang urged those who had fallen victims to the cult groups to lodge police reports to help police in investigations.
“We need and depend on your statements to prosecute the suspects,” he said.
