Police arrest suspect in rape of teen

POLICE on Saturday arrested a suspect who was allegedly part of a gang that raped a teenage girl in Rigo, Central.
Provincial police commander Chief Supt Johannes Yapi said seven youths allegedly raped the teenager from Western at Maitaruka village where she lived. He said the suspects were from the same village.
“The victim was taken away by force during a night church crusade in the village between 9pm and 10pm,” Yapi told The National.
He said a rural response team was sent to the village on Sunday and the prime suspect was arrested but six others escaped.
Three youths in the village were also arrested for allegedly obstructing police, they were trying to attack the police, Yapi said.
Police identified the suspects, he said. “They young girl was taken to the nearest health centre for treatment.”
Yapi said when police went into the village, the place was rampant with drunkards.
