A SUSPECT has been arrested over a pre-Christmas robbery that resulted in the death of a policeman in Port Moresby last year.
Acting NCD Metro Supt Perou N’dranou said the suspect was apprehended on Tuesday at the Gordon’s Police Barracks.
The incident occurred on Dec 16, last year when the compound fence was broken through and thieves entered the Delta Kikori Store at about 2am, he said. “The suspects made their entry through two separate fencings surrounding the compound using bolt cutters to cut through,” N’dranou said.
They broke in, ransacked the store and stole cash and items worth more than K12,000, he said.
“While they were looting, other suspects stood guard outside and they were confronted by police officers from the police post. The suspects reacted and shot an officer at point-blank range,” he said.
“The suspects used a prearranged dinghy powered by an outboard motor to escape.” Police believe that it was the work of an organised gang.
