Police arrest villager after man injured in alcohol-related row

A man from Kairuku, Central, was detained by police on Friday in relation to an attack on another man at Mahuru in Port Moresby.
The victim was injured on the neck and back after he was allegedly attacked with a bush knife.
Senior Constable Emmanuel Wrangian, of Boroko Police Station, said alcohol was involved.
The victim was Abel Naoaha, 27. It is believed that he and the man suspected of attacking him knew each other and they had been involved in a fight in the past. It is believed that alcohol was also involved in that incident.
Naoaha was admitted at Port Moresby General Hospital’s intensive care unit.
His father, Rodney, said the suspect was from his village and he had helped look after him.
“Although he gives me a hard time sometimes, I do not react aggressively to him,” he said.
Rodney said when that when his son was attacked on Friday night, he had no choice but to report the matter to police.
Wrangian said the suspect was facing a charge of attempted murder.
