Police ask for information

POLICE are appealing for information from the public to help them capture 32 escapees from Baisu Prison in Western Highlands.
Enga acting provincial police commander George Kakas appealed for information on the detainees and a group of armed men who overpowered jail guards and wounded one prison officer during the breakout on New Year’s Eve.
Appeals have been made through radio in the Highlands area.
Kakas said police task force unit was ready to move in on any information.
He said any information received from the public and their identities will be kept confidential.
Kakas asked people harbouring detainees to surrender them to police.
Correctional Service Commissioner Michael Waipo said a team of Correctional Service investigators in Port Moresby would be flown to Western Highlands to investigate the jail break.
Waipo said the team would investigation for CS.
The combined efforts of the police and CS to track down and recapture detainees and those suspected of assisting them in the escape.
Enga police is taking charge of the investigations because 31 of the detainees are from Enga and are likely be hiding in the province.
