Police band returns

THE Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary band is about to bring back more music for Port Moresby through public appearances after Governor Powes Parkop gave an early Christmas gift of K6,000 to clean their musical instruments in preparation for the festive season.
The payment would allow the band to put on six performances for city residents at the new Era Kone amphitheater at Ela Beach.
Each performance every fortnight by the band would earn them K1,000 – this is Mr Parkop’s initiative to turn Port Moresby into a city of art, craft and music.
“Singing, dancing and playing music has always been part of PNG’s culture and history which should be preserved,” he said.
Mr Parkop said the police band had talented musicians and these talents must be exposed for the next 12 weeks so that young people could appreciate these God-given
talents.
