POLICE in Port Moresby have arrested a man allegedly in possession of a military issue firearm believed to be used in a number of major robberies and car thefts in the city. National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’dranou told The National that police officers from Gordon apprehended the suspect, Ravo Pala, from Hula in the Rigo district of Central.
He said Pala was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
“It was surprising that Pala was not a suspect in any of the criminal investigation cases but he has been in possession of that military-issued firearm,” N’drano said.
He said his officers had acted on a tipoff.
“This is one of the many high-powered guns believed to be used in so many of the armed robberies and car thefts in the city,” he said.
“We are submitting the firearm to our forensic department to do ballistic tests so that when the results come out we will try to see if we can connect the gun to some of the major cases we are investigating.”
