Police boss not happy with work of station chiefs

PORT Moresby police metropolitan superintendent Perou N’Dranou plans to make changes to station commanders in the city because of “poor performance.”
He said the changes would affect the 10 police stations in the capital city.
“Their performances have really dropped so I have no choice but to change them,” he said.
“The police station commanders are responsible for their suburbs. Most of the stations have not been functioning.
“When the public lodge complaints, there are no police officers to serve them.
“Police officers are supposed to be on duty 24 hours as there are shift groups with shift supervisors.
“I have provided workshop training for them to review their performances. And I did give them chances to improve.
“But I have seen enough and will no longer tolerate their slackness.”
Meanwhile, N’Dranou said six police reservists had been removed from the force for setting up an illegal roadblock at National Research Institute in Gerehu, Port Moresby, on Sunday evening.
“I came across them while on inspection,” he said.
“I told them to remove their uniforms as they are no longer needed as police reservists.
“Regular officers at the Gerehu Police Station who have been using them to patrol the suburb will be disciplined.”
Perou said the roadblock had not been set up properly and the officers were extorting money from the motorists.
