POLICE and the business community in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, have vowed to work together to address issues affecting the city.
They met last week with the hope of re-establishing a partnership which they believed would help address issues concerning daily operations and the movement of the public.
The aim of the meeting was for the business community to tell police their expectations on ensuring a safe environment for businesses to operate.
Police legal officer Superintendent John Sagom said the business community was a key stakeholder in addressing law and order issues in the communities and it was the role of police to protect them and allow them to flourish.
“You are a very important stakeholder in the nation building and development partner in moving the country forward,” he said.
“Addressing people, key stakeholders about law and order issues in the communities is the role of police.”
He said police and businesses needed to maintain contact in order to ensure they operated free of problems.
He said as Mt Hagen police did not have crime reporting and monitoring initiatives such as a toll-free number or closed circuit television (CCTV) system to help them improve policing they would work with security service providers to prevent and protect against crime.
