COUNTING of the Kandep electorate votes in Enga resumed yesterday, Police Commissioner Gari Baki said.
Counting was suspended after two security officers were killed and a colleague wounded when an attempt to ambush an assisting returning officer at his accommodation by some supporters of candidates failed last Saturday.
Baki called on people to cooperate with  security forces to ensure that counting was completed before tomorrow’s deadline.
“There is sufficient security on the ground to provide security but if it means sending in reinforcement, we will do so,” Baki said.
“We are doing as much as possible to contain any situation that may arise.”
Baki also called on supporters of candidates to work with security forces to allow the counting process to continue.
“I am also appealing to the candidates to take charge of the elections and to work with us,” he said.
