Police catch highway robbery suspects

A GROUP of suspects alleged to be involved in a string of hold-ups along the Madang-Usino Highway had been caught by Madang police.
This happened after a bus crew alerted police after men armed with homemade guns and bush knives stopped the bus travelling between Naru and Negeri.
Madang police was not able to give more details adding a proper brief on the issue would come from the provincial police commander chief Inspector Ben Neneo.
A brief in the police registry stated that six suspects were caught at around 5pm on Monday at Negeri when they wanted to leave the area they were operating in.
The six admitted at the town police station where they were questioned and that they have been holding up vehicles in the highway for some time.
They also told police that there were two more groups doing the same activity in the area and were from Gonowa, Naru, Negeri, Ono and Usino areas.
Meanwhile, Madang police said they were struggling with limited resource.
Madang town mayor Joe Yama was aware of the problem and had been discussing with authorities.
