Police fraud squad in Port Moresby have arrested and charged former National Youth commissioner Johnson Hebe with misappropriation and conspiracy to defraud the state.
Hebe, who was charged last Friday, was alleged to have authorised the payment of K50,000 belonging to the National Youth commission on March 18 this year for services that were not carried out.
The money was allegedly paid into the account of a legal firm four days after Hebe was suspended from office.
The services for which the payment was paid for did not take place.
Police said Hebe, from Koroba in Southern Highlands, was suspended from office on March 14 this year and on March 18, authorised the payment of K50,000 to a law firm.
Police were also investigating the law firm and a female employee from the youth office allegedly involved in the transaction.
Hebe is on bail.
