POLICE are investigating a report that a five-year-old boy was sexually abused by a relative living in his home.
Gerehu police station commander Hanson Tokally said the incident happened last weekend.
“Family members allege that a relative living with them had sexually abused the five-year-old boy. He was brought to the police station and a complaint was filed against him,” he said.
Tokally said the case had been transferred to the Sexual Offence Squad and the Family Sexual Violence Unit in Boroko. The boy is in hospital.
A police officer said there had been an increase in sexual assaults of minors in their own homes by persons known to the victims and urged parents to be wary of who they left their children with.
