POLICE Commissioner Tom Kulunga is satisfied with the conduct of the national election in the highlands region despite a few killings.Kulunga toured polling booths in the Goroka electorate of Eastern Highlands province yesterday and spent time helping police officers in the polling stations at the Ifiyufa primary school and Meninga oval at Notofana outside Goroka.Kulunga had gone to Ifiyufa following reports that two men from that area had taken over the jobs of polling officials and were marking ballot papers for a candidate from that area.
Police officers confronted the two men but they managed to flee in a vehicle.Goroka police pursued them but they lost them in the many feeder roads in the area. Kulunga was accompanied by police media unit director Supt Dominic Kakas.A fight was also reported between supporters of Goroka MP Thompson Harokaqveh and former MP Bire Kimisopa. But soldiers moved in quickly to break things up.
