POLICE in Mt Hagen are conducting foot patrols in the city to prevent criminal activities as Baisu jail is closed following the mass breakout on Monday.
Acting provincial police commander Chief Insp David Kongua said they needed to increase police visibility in the city to warn people to respect the law.
Police are monitoring the situation because most escapees still are still at large.
“We all have a role to play to maintain law and order in the city because currently we have a problem at the jail,” he said.
“The police cell in Mt Hagen cannot accommodate too many people.
“And Baisu jail is closed.”
He said the situation at Baisu remained tense and police officers were assisting prison officers in looking for the escapees.
Chief Insp Kongua called on the public to assist police in recapturing those on the run.
“I’m appealing to the public to cooperate and take ownership of the law and order issues in the province.”

  • What a Strategy to enforce the Law and be with the able citizens. Well Done, It must continue not just because of the jail break out at Baisu. Foot Patrols around the cities in the country has to be a routine program of activity to hot -stops. Police men and women are closer with the citizens than driving in vehicles.

    DON,T STOP THE FOOT PATROLS.
