POLICE in Lae will stage another wheelbarrow push today to raise funds to help flood affected Queenslanders.

Organiser of the Queensland fund appeal, assistant police commissioner and commander of Momase police Giossi Labi said they had seen over whelming support from the public last week.

The wheelbarrow push under the Queensland flood appeal was staged last week and the final one would be on today with more support from the public.

Labi said when people saw police personal in their uniforms, they drove in numbers with cash.

“It was overwhelming to see children, parents, vendors, commuters and the working class stop and drop whatever they could in the wheelbarrow and I thank and appreciate them for their contributions,” he said before leaving for Wewak to officially open the new police station.

He said he was “touched by the news telecast last week” so came up with the idea to get his officers to raise money for the flood victims.

“Australia has helped PNG when the country was faced with natural disasters and money problems and although our contribution is not much, at least we have to show our generosity in their time of need,” he said.

Lae police have opened a bank account under “Queensland Flood Relief Fundraising” with Bank South Pacific account number: 1002768537.

Labi is appealing to fellow citizens in Lae to assist by donating to help flood victims rebuild their lives .
