Police diffuse row between settlers

POLICE intervened to defuse a row between settlers living on a piece of State land behind the University of PNG School of Music and Arts last Saturday.
Gerehu Police Station commander Hanson Tokally said the dispute was between people from Western Highlands and Moutama people living along Baruni road.
Tokally said the people from Western Highlands had been trying to settle on a piece of State land there.
They were stopped by police two weeks ago when they tried to move in.
They tried again, despite police instruction, last Saturday.
He said both groups were told to attend a meeting with police and the National Capital District Commission at the Gerehu police station today.

  • it is the inaction of the rightly authorities that have saw these type of land grabbing both on state land and customary. it is encouraged also by corrupt bureacracy that along for these to happen an dalso encouragee by politicians over the years who rely on these unplanned population boom to get votes in the city. we need corrupt free individuals in the right offices like NCDC, LAnds Dept etc.. to stop these settle ment crisis/expansion and remove those that a illegal, NOT TO ENCOURAGE IT BY PROMISING WATER, POWER AND LAND TITILES. WHile we genuine tax payers are struggling to access this services and buy a proper house through legal means, authorities are encouraging the settlement boom on the other hand. RECIPE FOR DISASTER, NOW WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH ETHINC VIOLENCE AND KILLING IN THE BIG CITY>>>>
