THE Police Association has urged politicians not to politicise the Royal PNG Constabulary.
Association general secretary Clemence Kanau yesterday told a media conference police personnel were there to protect lives and properties.
“Those politicians, who called policemen rogue officers and said they be charged with mutiny, must retract their statements on the floor of parliament,” he said.
Kanau said the police force had contributed meaningfully to peace-keeping operations in the past few days and such statements were degrading and would cause division in the force.
He said parliamentarians should not use parliamentary privilege to attack the police force without providing facts and figures.
“There were no rogue policemen during the crisis. They were only following the orders of their superiors.”
Police Association President Lowa Tambua said the constabulary was still uncertain of who the legitimate police commissioner was.
Kanau said an attempt to destabilise the police force was not in the best interest of the nation and, if bad came to worse, the constabulary would withdraw its service.
