THE recruitment process for those wishing to join the police reservist programme has been outsourced to a human resource company “to select the best”, a senior police officer says.
Training director Chief Superintendent Perou N’Dranou told a disgruntled group who turned up at the Bomana Police College yesterday, claiming that the selection process was corrupt, that the company would select the best recruits.
Applicant Neven Amugl claimed that the names selected to sit the entry test yesterday were ghost names.
He said most of the applicants went to the college yesterday for the entry test but their names had been dropped.
They were mostly from the National Capital District and Central command.
Amugl claimed that candidates shortlisted to do the entry test were not included in the list published in the newspapers.
He said some including himself received calls and text messages from unknown numbers asking for money if they wanted to be selected.
Chief Supt N’Dranou said they selected the company to do the selection to avoid corruption in the process.
He said people had been blaming the police of employing officers with shady characters and background.
“We had too much allegation by the public that we recruit bad apples.
“Hence, we are putting strict measures in place,” he said.
“I am confident that we did the right thing.
“I told them (group) to put their concerns in writing and let me look at it.
“I am yet to receive that.
“For them to confront us at the gate of the college – we did the right thing to remove them.
“How can you go against the authorities?” Chief Supt N’Dranou said.
On the allegation of bribery, he said he wanted to see the evidence.
