Police extend liquor ban in Western

National, Normal

POLICE have extended the Christmas and New Year liquor ban in Western province to next month.
“Although there wasn’t any major violence during celebrations, the province is still facing some security problems,” provincial police commander Chief  Insp Peter Philip said.
Chief Insp Philip said yesterday he had briefed the Governor and his deputy and provincial administrator on the extension from Jan 2 to Feb 1.
He said three more people were arrested, besides the seven last week, for illegal trading.
Among those nabbed was a 65-year-old general manager of a private company and an Engan man was arrested twice and released on bail for K1,000.
Chief Insp Philip said other businesses exempted from the ban were allowing customers to take alcohol outside their premises and “we will be checking on them soon”.
