A GIRL was allegedly murdered last Friday night in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, provincial police commander, Chief Supt Martin Lakari said yesterday.
He said her body was found on the lawn of a bowling club on Saturday morning.
Lakari urged the owner of the club and his employees to help police in their investigation to identify the suspects.
He said police were hopeful of making arrests soon.
Lakari said an investigation was underway and appealed to people with information to report to police.
He added that any information regarding the murder would be kept confidential. Lakari said such killing painted a bad image of the city and its people.
He said a post mortem examination was conducted yesterday.
“I want to appeal to all law abiding citizens to cooperate with police and prevent such killings and those breaking the law must be put behind bars,” Lakari said.
He urged girls and women going to nightclubs to take extra precautions.
He said their safety was important and they must move around with trusted people and return home safely. “Police will not be present at every corner of the city or even outside nightclubs to protect them,” Lakari said.
