Police get vehicles as station built

Two vehicles have been given to police in Lae and a ground-breaking ceremony was held for the construction of Malahang Police station at a cost of more than K500,000.
The vehicles and police station are being funded by International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI) under its community partnership programme.
ICTSI South Pacific chief executive Edward Muttiah said law and order was a shared community effort.
He said this was the beginning of the many community support that ICTSI will offer.
“We believe peace and good order is vital as it will encourage businesses to boom which leads to employment opportunities and quality living standards,” he said.
Police Minister Jelta Wong said his ministry was looking at providing more vehicles to improve police mobility.
He warned police in Lae to look after the vehicles.
Wong also urged the public to use social media to expose officers who misuse vehicles.
Lae MP John Rosso said officers should not drink and drive.
“You must look after these things as it will help you to do your work in policing in the community,” he said.
