Police: Highlands mobile squad excelling in nation’s capital

National, Normal

FOUR highlands-based mobile squads are currently in the National Capital District to beef up security, Central divisional commander Francis Tokura said.
He said they were doing an excellent job resulting in a significant drop in the number of armed hold-ups and motor vehicle thefts around the
city.
He said it was the initiative of NCD metropolitan commander Peter Guinness.
“Although the city is experiencing an active crime pattern, police response has gradually improved due to additional police presence,” Tokura said.
He was responding to
public criticisms on the actions of the policemen who attempted to serve court documents on Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia last Tuesday.
The police squads were referred to as “foreign troops”.
“We do not have foreign troops operating in NCD and people should not use this term to refer to our highlands-based mobile squad personnel.
“People should not use such inferences to alienate police functions and responsibilities or attempt to cause differences, disunity and animosity between members of the police force,” Tokura said.
