Police in Highlands to start special Easter operations
POLICE in three Highlands provinces will carry out a special operation during the Easter weekend from tomorrow.
Police eastern end divisional commander Nema Mondia told The National yesterday that police in Chimbu, Jiwaka, and Western Highlands would be out in full force to ensure a trouble-free Easter.
Mondia said the operation would start tomorrow and end on Tuesday.
He said police in Western Highlands would carry out foot-beat patrols in Mt Hagen city.
“I want to warn drivers not to drink alcohol and drive, many sections of our roads in the region are bad,” he said.
Mondia said police would be setting roadblocks to check drink driving.
He said police would be also checking on the transportation of illegal weapons, drugs and alcohol.
He also urged the drivers not to drive around in unroadworthy vehicles or vehicle with mechanical faults.
