Police: Homebrew, illegal drugs cause of social problems
The National, Wednesday February 11th, 2015
HOMEBREW and illegal drugs are responsible for many social problems in the communities, according to acting West New Britain provincial police commander Chief Inspector Gordon Magum.
He said that after 37 homebrew kits were surrendered at Tiauru, in the Bialla Local Level Government, where problems like broken families, family violence, sexual abuse, loss of family savings and crimes such as murder, rape and armed robbery were rife.
He told youths that they had set an example for others in Bialla to follow.
He urged everyone in the communities to work with police in Bialla to ensure that law and order was maintained.
Magum promised the people that he would tell the police hierarchy in the New Guinea Islands to have the Tiauru police post re-opened to serve the community and to ensure police presence in the area.
However he said police facilities must be maintained first and that would take some time.
Bialla district court magistrate Jasper Amanu and East Nakanai LLG president John Nasale challenged the youths to plan their lives properly.
Youths were challenged to change their attitude and practice self-respect and discipline, spiritual enrichment and health, financial growth, family responsibility and community-oriented activities.
Nasale offered to give the youths some contracts in Bialla town to help their newly registered youth association progress.
