Police housing

Letters

I fully support the comment by Ialibu police station commander Mack Hanema on the housing shortage that is forcing police officers to stay away from Ialibu (The National, Oct 31).
This housing issue in Ialibu is an ongoing problem and has been in existence for at least the past 10 years. As a community leader in Ialibu, I appeal to the Ialibu-Pangia MP to work with Police Commissioner Gari Baki to address this accommodation problem for police officers in Ialibu.
One of the solutions may be to build police barracks for between 30 and 50 policemen.
The establishment of the barracks and deployment of more policemen to Ialibu is important because they will improve police image and morale.
New projects like the Western Pacific University in Ialibu, the construction of the new airport in Pangia and work on the Gulf-Southen Highlands Province highway need strong police presence in the area.
