Police in Wewak lack manpower

Letters

WEWAK town is so low on effective police manpower right now.
Boys are no longer scared of police.
In the past, that blue uniform and red-blue badge used to command respect and authority.
It does not work today.
It is frustrating to read one-off articles in newspapers mentioning the East Sepik police commander talking about police investigations.
Newspaper reports are just fairy tales to create an impression that we have a vibrant police force in the province.
We do not!
While we appreciate temporary reinforcements brought in to help, this is just a band aid solution.
We need a permanent solution.
Currently there is fighting going on between Kreer compound and Kreer valley and police are unable to quell the situation.
I am not encouraging rogue behaviour but in Wewak maybe the only way to solve law and order problems is through jungle justice.
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.
We have lost faith in the police.
A sad reality indeed.
Wewak lacks strong policing, that’s for sure.
We can talk about all sorts of developments in the province but if the citizens do not have the liberty to enjoy their results, what good are they?
Get law and order correct so my children and I including my fellow Sepiks can truly say we are benefitting.
