A DEAD infant was found early on Saturday along the 5-Mile Road next to Jack Pidik Park in Port Moresby, police said.
National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’Dranou confirmed the report, saying it was “very serious” but a report from the police officer who attended to the case was yet to reach his office.
Constable Manu Reagan, from the Boroko Police Station, told The National yesterday that the offence committed “was an act of infanticide” and that the incident happened between 3am and 4am.
“Witnesses who have given information so far allege claimed that the suspect was a pregnant women identified to be from the Highlands who regularly roamed the streets of Boroko,” he said.
“Reports from witnesses allege that the lady was running and screaming in pain along the road from Boroko to Jack Pidik Park until she aborted the child, left it along the road and ran away.”
Reagan said he would be presenting a report on the case today to the NCD metropolitan superintendent.
