POLICE in East Sepik are looking for a man from Yangoru-Saussia who allegedly murdered his wife at Pambaniong village on Wednesday.
Police commander Supt Albert Beli identified the deceased as Josephine Ikom from Hawain in Wewak.
It was alleged that the accused became suspicious of his wife who was talking on her mobile phone and hit her with an object before she died.
Meanwhile, the mobile squad deployed to the province arrested six islanders from Walis for various offences and took them to Wewak on Wednesday. Supt Beli commended the mobile squad’s efforts and said they were a great help to local police in terms of manpower.
He raised a concern on policemen in the province being dismissed or suspended from duty on disciplinary grounds.
“Since I took office as the provincial police commander, two policemen have been dismissed and five have been suspended with their cases are before the courts,” Supt Beli said.
“This week, another officer has been sentenced and is serving nine months at Boram prison. The force is not about policing our own men.”
