Police make five arrests

Police have made five arrests related to a range of crimes, the office of the Deputy Police Commissioner Crimes said yesterday.
These included wilful murder, stealing, armed holdup, receiving and uttering, breaking and entering, stealing, commercial, misappropriation and in possession of dangerous drugs. The crimes were committed in the National Capital District and East New Britain.
In NCD, an armed holdup occurred on Jan 8 at Waigani. It was alleged that four people armed with a homemade shotgun held up a person and stole the person’s vehicle, a grey Toyota Camry, registration number BCQ 802. This occurred between 8.30am and 9am at Bank South Pacific Waigani.
Nelson Kamo, 35, and of Poloko village in Pangia, and Yaks Alu, 25, and of Pulupatu village, Southern Highlands, received a cheque belonging to the Rigo District Treasury from another man and attempted to bribe a teller to deposit it into an account. Their attempts were foiled and they were arrested charged and are locked up to await court appearance.
At Hanuabada, a Chinese national has been arrested for allegedly breaking into the owners’ room and stealing property and K160,000 while they were away on a medical trip to China.
