Police nab ‘notorious criminal’ in New Ireland

POLICE have caught a suspected notorious criminal wanted for questioning over a string of serious crimes in New Ireland province.
He was caught in a dawn raid by police last week.
Police are yet to charge the man, 30, from Finschhafen, Morobe, who they caught at Omo village, near Kavieng town.
Acting provincial police commander Oena Afeke said police believed the man was the mastermind behind the theft of K12,000 from the PMM supermarket last month.
Police also wanted to question him over the shooting to death of the manager of the Bristol Trading Ltd.
He said the man and two accomplices were in custody at the Kavieng police station.
“Police are working on his files and, once they are ready, he will be charged. Possible murder and armed robbery charges will be laid against him,” Afeke said.
Afeke said Christmas and New Year were around the corner and police would target anyone who disturbed the peace.
“I appeal to the residents of Kavieng town, particularly youths to refrain from consuming alcohol and marijuana and causing trouble,” he said.
