EARLY flight passengers scampered for cover when an impatient man threatened to blow up the Jackson Airport domestic terminal in Port Moresby on Sunday morning, police said.

He was annoyed with the slow checking in and soon lost his cool, threatening to blow the terminal with a bomb he said he had in his bag. Police claimed the man was drunk.

Airport police station commander Acting Insp Robert Wane told The National: “The man, who is unemployed and was on his way to Lae for a job interview, yelled that he had a bomb in his bag and would blow up the terminal.

“He was drunk and was impatient because he was at the end of a long queue of passengers checking in at the counter for the 5am flight to Lae.

“He was impatient and called on the check-in staff to process the passengers boarding passes and luggage quickly.

“Since the pleas were unanswered, he shouted and threatened that he had a bomb in his bag and would blow up the terminal.

“All the passengers scattered everywhere when they heard the shouting.

“Luckily none was hurt.”

Wane said that the airport security guards secured him and brought him to the airport police station next to the domestic terminal.

“He was arrested and charged for threatening. He has been detained in police custody without bail.”
