Police nab robbery suspects in Kavieng, recover K3,500

NEW Ireland police have apprehended five suspects allegedly involved in the robbery of about K12,000 in Kavieng town on Monday morning.
Acting provincial police commander Oena Afeke confirmed that the robbery took place outside the Bank South Pacific at 9am.
He said an employee of a business house in Kavieng went to the bank to do the company’s weekend banking when he was intercepted by the
robbers.
Two of the suspects were armed with pistols and had used a hired vehicle.
The employee was held at gunpoint and told to hand over the bag of money. The suspects then fled the scene in a vehicle.
Afeke said luckily no firearm had been discharged.
He said the quick response by police saw five suspects being arrested and K3,500 recovered.
Afeke commended his officers for their swift action. Investigations were continuing into the robbery.
