POLICE in the newly-created Hela province have picked up a suspect allegedly involved in the robbing of a Curtain Brothers pilot on Tuesday.
The man, who is an employee of a construction company sub-contracted to the LNG project, is alleged to have been with three other suspects when they held up the expatriate pilot at around 11.30am.
Provincial police commander John Anawe said K100,000 that was meant to pay employees was taken from the pilot.
Police said the robbers hid inside the upgraded Tari Airport while waiting for the aircraft to land.
When the plane landed they pointed a pistol at the pilot and took the cash before escaping on foot into nearby bushes.
Police and company guards were too late in responding.
Police said it was unclear how the suspects sneaked into the airport.
Anawe said the robbery looked like an inside job and he appealed to the community to come forward with information.
