A TIP-OFF from the public prompted police to foil a possible robbery of a Gordon shop in Port Moresby, resulting in the arrest of three suspects, according to Metropolitan Commander Supt Perou N’dranou.
“Police also confiscated a firearm and a would-be get-away car at Lepwing Drive, Gordon at about 2.30pm on Saturday, he said.
N’dranou said yesterday that the three men from Central and Northern in their late 20s were detained at the Boroko Police Station for further questioning.
“A police unit attached to my office kept surveillance at Gordon after receiving a tip-off that criminals were going to strike a shop within the vicinity of Gordon.
“One of the suspects carrying a bag was picked up along the road and two others were arrested inside their car in the same location.
“A silver homemade pistol was found inside the bag with a bullet in the chamber. Another bullet was also found inside the bag. The car, a white Mark II sedan, was impounded by police and investigations are continuing,” he added.
