Police: No formal complaint on administrator’s suspension

EAST New Britain police have not received any formal complaints against provincial administrator Wilson Matava.
Assistant Commissioner of Police New Guinea Islands Anton Billie confirmed that while they were aware he had been sidelined by the provincial executive council (PEC) they had not received a complaint.
“No allegations have reached this office, unless the complaint went directly to the Royal PNG Constabulary headquarters in Port Moresby.”
According to reports from ENB, Matava was sidelined by the PEC over his alleged involvement in the use of K1 million, which was a portion of the K20 million tourism infrastructure grant given by the Peter O’Neill government in 2014 to boost the tourism industry in the province.
The K20 million came under the overall funding of K58 million known as the Kokopo Tourism Infrastructure Funding which was delivered to the ENB government in 2014 to implement two projects in the province following the declaration by the provincial government as a tourism hub.
A PEC meeting was held a week ago and all members agreed to sideline Matava as the investigations commenced.
Deputy Levi Mano was appointed as acting provincial administrator.
