A POLICE officer allegedly hit a woman at Hohola Police Station on Wednesday.
The policeman was believed to owe the woman money and when confronted, he allegedly attacked her.
People nearby watched without trying to help her.
Police station commander Benjamin Kua said he was away on leave break and was not aware of the incident.
“I will deal with the victim myself and see who those officers were,” he said.
It is understood that a senior police officer borrowed K300 from Lorna Yolongi, 26, from East Sepik, in August 2018.
He promised to repay the money with interest but failed to do so.
“He told me to go to the station so I went,” Yolongi said.
“He refused to give the money and started slapping me on my face and punched me while my two-year-old daughter was standing and crying.
“Other officers called out, ‘arrest her’.”
She said while the officer punched her several times on the face, others called out to arrest her, as she had “no licence to sell money”.
“If he knew that I had no licence to sell money, then why did he come to my house and get the money?” Yolongi said.
The interest accumulated to K2700, of which he had only paid K450, she said.
Yolongi is married with four children and lives at Hohola.
