Police officer to be investigated
The National, Wednesday February 3rd, 2016
OUTGOING Waigani police station commander Inspector Micah Yosman will be investigated for causing damage to a State property, National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Benjamin Turi says.
Turi told The National that Yosman was allegedly involved in a fatal accident last Saturday in Waigani while driving a police vehicle assigned to the station late last year.
“He will be suspended and we will investigate and charge him with causing damage to State property,” Turi said. “Whether he is at fault or not, he will be charged because the impact is too big. We have limited resources and supply of vehicles and we must look after them. ”
Turi said he would be more strict on police officers on the use of official vehicles and other police properties.
Deputy secretary in the Department of Prime Minister Trevor Meauri recently said the Government had invested a lot in the police department and wanted to see a reduction in the crime rate. Meauri made the statement in a report that was published in page 6 of The National Newspaper last week which he said one of the sectors that needs a lot of change is the law and order sector.
