A SENIOR police officer in Western Highlands has called on the government to immediately implement the death penalty.
Western Highlands zone commander Insp David Kongua said last Friday there were too many killings taking place in Port Moresby, Lae and Mt Hagen.
“Many of these killings are not reported,” he said.
“It is about time the government implements the death penalty.
“Look at the killing of two innocent porters on the Black Cat Trail and attacking of trekkers from Australia and New Zealand last Tuesday west of Wau rural in Bulolo, Morobe,” Kongua said.
Kongua, a former Porgera police station commander, said such attackers should be hanged.
“They have brought shame to the government and the people of Papua New Guinea.”
He said he had heard of many killings and it was a threat to society.
“My appeal to the government is to impose the death penalty immediately to keep everyone safe,” Kongua said.
“As a cop I believe the only tough measure that will be taken by the government to protect this country from evil people is to impose the death penalty.”
