Police officers involved in an incident involving guns at the Bomana Police Training Centre will be stood down while investigations are conducted, Police Minister Jelta Wong says.
The Police Dog Training School unit was attacked by members of an elite police unit, the Special Service Division, on Monday – allegedly in retaliation to an assault on one of their members at his home in the barracks.
The assault on the SSD member was alleged to have been carried out by members of the dog unit.
Wong condemned the actions of the police officers and said that those involved would be stood down from active service during investigations.
“Make no mistake, any member of the disciplined services who acts against their oath will be fully disciplined by their service and charged under the law,” Wong said.
“Whatever the grievances are between these groups of individuals, there is no place for this behaviour in the ranks of our disciplined services.”
Wong said that “one-strike and you are out” policy would be implemented to maintain police discipline.
“The nation looks to our disciplined forces to set an example, so when codes of conduct are broken by police officers, there is no excuse,”he said.
“These officers will be suspended from active duties until investigations are completed.”
Wong also appealed to members of the public to not listen to rumours and wait until the facts have been established before passing judgement.
