EAST New Britain provincial police commander Sylvester Kalaut has applauded his officers for their tireless efforts and commitment towards the 2012 national election.
During a parade last Friday at Ralum police headquarters in Kokopo, Chief Supt Kalaut said their commitment had contributed to a successful election.
He said, despite being faced with a huge deficit in the overall election budget, the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary management stood firm and shouldered the responsibilities by encouraging officers in the provinces to use whatever resources they had to complete election operations.
He said the main election debrief had been planned to be staged in Lae next month.
He said he would present to the Commissioner and his top management a review of how operations were conducted in the province.
He said the report would highlight the challenges faced and recommendations on how best to prepare and devise plans for future election operations.
Kalaut said the officers had performed as professionals and allowed common sense to prevail in most instances.
He said police officers deserved praise because they used their wealth of experience and community policing skills to encourage the people to respect the rule of law during the election period.
