Police officers undergo basic investigation training

A six-week course on basic investigation for the Mamose Criminal Investigation Department at the Bumbu Police Barracks Mamose Regional Training Centre in Lae underscored things to come in the police force.
Most of those who attended the course that ended last Friday were from the Lae metropolitan command, Madang, East Sepik, West Sepik and Kainantu.
Assistant Police Commissioner Mamose Nema Mondiai told them that thinking about Bomana (police college) was over as not everybody would get the chance to attend courses there since training was being decentralised to regions and provinces.
He said a lot of reviews would be done to make the system effective “especially for those of you who are in the front line where a lot of activities take place”.
“This is the biggest group of Criminal Investigation Department investigators selected to undergo six weeks of very intensive training to learn a lot more about investigation and leadership,” Mondiai said.
He said the commissioner had been talking about changes, “the way we think, the way we conduct our business and the public will have their say”.
“This refresher course will help us change the way we conduct our business by making sure our clients and the public are satisfied with the kind of services we deliver to them,” Mondiai said.
“We are in the period of change and as you depart from here, I want you to have a change of mindset because a lot of you will be playing very important roles in the frontline to lead your investigators and there should be change in a way you conduct your investigations.”
Mondiai praised former commissioner Thomas Kulunga for putting together a modernisation programme for the force.
