THE killing of a father, wife and son by unknown men in Madang has prompted the provincial government to organise a big police operation in the area to round up the suspects.
Madang Governor Peter Yama and provincial police commander Chief Inspector Ben Neneo yesterday jointly addressed the killings in Transgogol on Monday at a media conference.
Neneo said suspects in previous killings had been arrested but people were too scared to come forward as witnesses in court.
“That is why most of these suspects are free,” he said.
Yama told Neneo to have police investigate the killings and to submit a report to his office.
He said if they had to bring in police mobile units from other provinces, they should.
“We cannot let them go around killing people like this,” Yama said.
On Monday evening, dad Kawas, his wife Melib their eldest son Greg were killed by a group of men from Sihan village in their home.
Kawas’ brother, Awakun, saw his body in a sitting position in the middle of the Transgogol highway at around 7pm. They had just returned together from work at Ramu NiCo an hour earlier.
He said the men later went to Kawas’ house and killed Melib and Greg, 20.
“If Madang police cannot stop the killings, if it is too big for Papua New Guinea police, they can ask the United Nations to help,” Kawas said.
