Police probe suicide case
POLICE in Manus are investigating the death of a man who committed suicide in Lorengau, on Friday.
Manus police commander chief Inspector David Yapu said the incident occurred between 12.30am and 1.30am in the ward three area.
Police identified the deceased as Pondros Kiapin, 26, from Mbuke Island in the Pobuma local level government (LLG).
Yapu said the deceased was married with one child and is an employee of PNG Power Ltd.
He said the deceased and his wife had an argument on Thursday night in which the deceased assaulted his wife.
“On the same night the wife was brought to the Lorengau hospital for medical treatment and later she reported the matter to the police,” he said.
“After reporting the matter to the police, she went back home and found her husband had hung himself with rope around his neck outside their living room.”
Yapu said the wife alerted her in-laws and later in the morning the deceased was brought to the Lorengau hospital morgue.
The body of the deceased is at the morgue with a post mortem expected to be done to determine the cause of death.
