POLICE are investigating the break-in into and removal of guns and ammunitions from the Bomana Prison Training College, says Correctional Services Commissioner Michael Waipo.

The incident happened between 10pm and 11pm last Thursday.

Waipo said rogue officers living at Bomana entered the main college administration building and forced their way into the armoury.

They stole nine 5.56 millimetre bullets and a magazine.

“There is no other way to enter the building but through the administration block, which they accessed with a key, and forced open the door to the armoury,” Waipo said.  He said the incident happened following speculations of a change in the position of CS Commissioner.

He said the situation will be addressed internally and assured the public that everything would be done to ensure public safety.

For a start, the locks to the armoury will be replaced,” he said.

Police officers from the forensics department and Criminal Investigation Division had been to the scene.

Meanwhile, the CS headquarters at Hoholain Port Moresby was in a lock-down last Friday for safety purposes.
