Police question convict’s freedom

POLICE are investigating why a man, who should be serving a 16-year jail term for killing his father, is free and allegedly committing other crimes.
James Lloyd Kennedy, 35, from Teremanda village in Wabag, Enga, was arrested last week and faced charges relating to the sexual assault of an under-aged girl on Nov 1.
Western Highlands provincial police commander Supt Kaiglo Ambane said Kennedy should be serving his term at Baisu jail but was roaming around the community.
Ambane said 13 years ago, Kennedy, then 22, was convicted for the murder of his father.
Kennedy was arrested at Kondopina in North Waghi, Jiwaka, where he lived.
“Police want to know why Kennedy is not in Baisu jail serving a 16-year murder sentence.
“We are assuming that Kennedy escaped from the Baisu jail and investigations are continuing.”
Ambane said Kennedy allegedly assaulted a 13-year-old girl at Kondopina and threatened to kill her if she reported the attack to her parents.
He said the girl told her parents of her ordeal and her elder sister had claimed she had been threatened by Kennedy.
Kennedy was apprehended and locked up at the Mt Hagen police station cell last week.
