ACTING South Fly police commander Snr Insp Ewai Segi is concerned that three Indonesians detained for alleged illegal entry and illegal fishing escaped from the Daru Police Station in Western.
“We have already begun internal investigation on how these Indonesians escaped from the police cells last Saturday,” Snr Insp Segi said
“We have already got leads as to where these Indonesians are and will apprehend them.
“Also the policemen accused of aiding their escape will be investigated.”
He said the three Indonesians were charged with illegal fishing under the National Fisheries Authority Act.
“While waiting for their court appearance, they walked out of the cells,” he said.
“They are yet to have extra charges laid on them from Immigrations for illegal entry.
“They also crossed without following PNG and Indonesian Covid-19 protocols and so they are yet to be charged under the National Pandemic Act for crossing illegally into Western for illegal fishing.”
Snr Insp Segi said he sent policemen to Katawa village to seek the Indonesians as the local man involved in bringing them to Western was from that village.
